Prendre le congé

Whew.
OK, I’m not going to go back and post-edit like I usually do, second-guessing myself and trying to make sure every sentence makes sense. I’m just going to put this up.
OK, here’s what’s up.
About a week after my last post (yes I know it’s been two months, but there’s a damn good reason and I’m getting to it) Monsieur and I went to dinner, a very lovely romantic one in Austin at a place that looks like a tree house. I got manicotti; ; he had the fish.
After dinner, I didn’t want dessert and he rarely gets it. We went outside and sat under a huge oak tree. Then he handed me this big freaking diamond ring.
“It was my grandmother’s,” he said. He asked me to marry him.
I suddenly had to pee – really badly.
“What’s the catch?” I asked.
“You are,” he replied.
Damn, he’s good.
We talked a lot. Most of what we talked about will remain private, readers. I’m sorry but it has to be that way. One of the things we talked about was this very blog, which I didn’t know he was even aware. But, he was, and he told me it bothered him that I was showing myself to the world, and talking about deeply personal stuff between the two of us, and generally not safeguarding my privacy and respecting our relationship.
I was embarrassed, and as a result I did two things: deleted picture posts, and didn’t add anything else.
Telling my mom that we were engaged created all kinds of grief between her and me about the wedding and how big it should be and what should happen and where it should be done. Also, among the aunts in my family. I didn’t want that, so about ten minutes later we decided to elope. Which we did, about two weeks ago. So now I’m Mrs. Monsieur.
(A very good friend of mine calls this “burying the lede,” and I suspect he hates it when I do this.)
I don’t know if I’m going to continue this blog, given how it’s public and all. I don’t want to make it Blogger ID-only; and taking it down would be the right thing to do. (I’m definitely not putting up any pictures again!) If I do another blog, I’ll do two things: I’ll hide it from the world, and make it “invitation only”.
In any event, I will at least leave it up for a while. Thanks for reading. You know how to get hold of me, unless you aren’t supposed to.

wow. Congratulations...what an adventure. This summer has brought a lot of changes for a lot of people. I totally understand about the privacy thing. I have enjoyed reading your blog because you have a gift for writing and because you are daring and bold in a way I'm not sure I could be. If you do continue blogging, I would enjoy being one of your gentle readers and would respect your discreetness. Thank you for sharing the adventure of your life-so-far.

OMG!!!!
I am so excited for you! I know it sounds silly, but I have been thinking about you both and praying that it would happen. YES!!!! Seriously, very happy for the two of you.

Congratulations! I know how you're feeling, how you were feeling...and I know how much it means. Trust me, I know.

Much love,
The Butterfly Temptress

I wish I knew you in person so I could hug you and say two things (ok well maybe three)
1. I'm GLAD you are ok and that you are back even if briefly.
2. A great big huge congratulations! I'm so happy for you and I know, I know, it's weird, I've never met you but still I find a huge happiness in my heart for you.
3. If you take this down and start a newer low key one, I only hope that you will invite me along as I so much enjoy your writing.

While I don't check you every day, when I do, I take my time and read thoroughly. It's always a time when I have longer than a minute when I check you. Make the right decision for you Mrs. Monsieur! I have to say and maybe weirdly so but I'm just very happy for you all. Things happen for a reason and in the death of your best friend, this very good thing has been but one result. Having a close relationship with death's afer math, this is an awesome thing to see.
Be well!

Congrats! I know you'll continue to take care of that family and love and be loved by them!

And M is a smart man. Both for wedding you and for talking about the blog (sad for me to say, as I love reading it).

Congratulations

I've been a reader (voyeur) for about 6 months. I am thrilled for you and definitely understand your husband's concern about privacy. This blog is not worth a second thought if it bothers him. What you might consider is writing a book! Now will that wig him out??? LOL -

Best Wishes for you, him and the children.

Congratulations. Your writing is beautiful and heartfelt. I stumbled across your blog many months ago through 25peeps and had to stop everything I was doing and go through as much of the archive as I could in an afternoon. Since then I've checked in occasionally to see how things have been going. I can't begin to tell you how import your words were to me at the time I found them. I am a single father of three teenage children and while I am never literally alone, I have been very much alone for a long time. Your words about your love and life and family and friends and everything else, brought back hope when it was sorely needed. I will pray that you have a wonderful life and every joy and happiness that life can bring. You truly deserve it.

I keep thinking I will come back and you will have something new. I don't want to be pushy but you can still write and keep your privacy. I just hate to think you are gone (from here) for good...
